Faansie Basson has been training sheepdogs for the past twenty-five years. Born and raised in South Africa, he started farming in 1993. His involvement with sheep soon led him to sheepdogs, and because he is by nature competitive, sheepdog trialing. He has won the South African Nationals multiple times and has been very successful running the Brace competition.

In past years, he has given instruction clinics in South Africa, the U.S, Australia, and much of Europe and has also traveled with his dogs to numerous countries to compete and to judge. In 2015, he moved to the USA with his wife Elmarie and two daughters, Christie and Jana. He currently lives in Texas and is involved with sheepdogs full-time, teaching clinics and competing.
